Event Details

This Workshop presents standardized Guidelines for applying the National Electric Code (NEC) to photovoltaic (PV) system installations. Participants will qualify for 6 hours of Labor & Industries Continuing Education Credits.

Why the Need to Learn About PV Systems?
PV systems allow homeowners and others to convert solar energy into electricity. The PV generated electricity will serve electricity uses at the site and excess electricity generated by the system can be fed back into the local electric power grid.  An increasing number of PV systems are being installed in Washington in response to financial incentives from the state and federal tax credits.

Who Should Attend?
Solar contractors and other electrical contractors interested in getting into PV.

Workshop Outline
- PV System Basics
- Introduction to relevant Codes and Standards: NEC 690 and more
- Summary of PV Electrical Installation Issues
- Permit and Field Inspector Guidelines for PV Systems

- Permit Guidelines for Small-Scale PV Systems
- Inspection Guidelines for all PV Systems
- Questions and Answers

Who is the Instructor?
Bill Brooks of Brooks Engineering has nearly 20 years experience designing and installing grid-connected PV systems. He is the principal author of Inspector Guidelines for PV Systems.  Actively involved in the developments of PV codes and standards including IEEE-929 (PV Utility Interconnection) and for NEC Article 690 (Solar Photovoltaic Systems), he holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State Univ. and is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and California.

Registration:  $25 per participant. Coffee and bagels will be provided in the morning and lunch at noon.

Workshop presented by Seattle City Light, Puget Sound Energy, and the U.S. Department of Energy.
